you get hit to activate pick pocket, not hit them

I'd assume it's more for wasting your opponent's items rather than damage.

Besides, they're different utility moves. You wouldn't call someone out on using Volt Switch and Thunderbolt or U-Turn and Megahorn.

shiftry is frail as fuck and relatively slow.
that's why sucker punch/sun team generally works for it.
it can also do physical or special sets with swords dance/nasty plot.
