Guys, this is totally a pleb question/statement but I can't beat the Elite Four on HeartGold and I'm trying to KO each member's pokemon without using revive/potions. This is my team:

Typhlosion:
Flamethrower
Rollout
Lava Plume
Blast Burn

Kadabra:
Psybeam
Psychic
Shadow Ball
Miracle Eye

Ampharos:
Flash (just used it for dark cave, will get rid of)
Rock Smash
Discharge
Thunderpunch

Gyarados:
Strength
Ice Fang
Dragon Dance
Dragon Rage

My other two spots are unused and I have no clue who to place in there. I already caught Ho-Oh and Entei.

replace Dragon Rage on Gyarados with Waterfall. Do some grinding in Victory Road. If you need a new team member and don't want to grind that much catch a Rhyhorn or something in Victory Road as well. You may as well use Ho-oh if you don't care about using legendaries.

To be fair, dragon rage does have its uses, anon. If the enemy is bulky and you haven't got any type advantage.

But you should really replace those HMs, anon.

After thinking a bit about it yeah, Dragon Rage is somewhat useful in some situations, but most bulky pokemon can be dealt with easily (Slowbro with Thunderbolt/Punch, Forretress with Fire, Umbreon with Brick Break and Gyarados with Thunderbolt) and it takes 2-4 uses to kill anything at levels 40-50 I think.

Isn't Skarmory bit pointless for in-game battles? OP just need someone strong with Ice Beam/Ice punch, some Fire user, someone to spam Thunderbolt or Thunderpunch (preferably Thunderbolt), one to spam Psychic and someone using moves like Brick Break. Water is also useful for 3 mons in E4

First off, I'd say that you replace one of Typhlosion's Fire Attacks with something that can help you defeat one of the Elite Four. You should have a pokemon designed to beat each elite four team.

Give Kadabra some type of move to replace Psybeam, as well. Maybe Future Sight.

Ampharos needs to get rid of Thunder Punch and Discharge, give him something that will actually do decent damage for his type. Thunder/Thunderbolt maybe. As far as flash goes, try getting him to learn Power Gem. Also, Rock Smash - Useless. If you want fighting moves, get a fighting type.

Gyarados looks good, excluding Strength.

As for Tw pokemon you need Skarmory sand a Fighting type may be of great use.

At least some type of pokemon that can take Dragon type moves well. Doesn't need to be Skarmory.

Lapras with Ice beam will deal with them easily. Or if Sneasel was available, it with Ice punch. Or actually just about anyone with decent Sp. Atk and capability to learn Ice Beam.

Skarmory is only useful as a Wall. Or did you actually think using Air Cutter with that Sp. Atk, or perhaps using Steel Wing? At least Steel Wing is useful for whopping 3 pokemon in E4, which can be easily dealt with better stuff. Or maybe you planned on using Night Slash? That's useful too... for Will only.
For the record, Wall is pokemon used for defensive measures, so Skarmory is pretty much useless in-game, because everything can be killed pretty fast with just by using attacks.
