Seriously, most battles he's in are such close matches when they have no reason to be.
His Infernape should be able to sweep most things, but damn near most battles he's in involve
>Send out X>opponent sends out Y>X KOs Y>Trainer sends out Z>Z KOs X>Ash sends out Another pokemon>Ash's pokemon KOs Z>Repeat.It seems like the writers are afraid to make him a good trainer, who should be able to at least sweep some regular joes easily.
Also, keep the power of his pokemon constant. Don't change it to fit the needs of the show.
Give him a personality, even if it's a shitty one. He needs something!
Have more appearances from his former pokemon/have him switch out his team more often. Seriously, it's like he forgets he has a whole slew of pokemon he can call on to make gym battles much easier.
None of these will happen, but I think they would help the show.
