What the hell? Did the pokemon franchise finally get a good story for one? The game wasn't amazing, but it sure did finally make for an emotionally compelling plot with engaging characters for once.

Do the other Mystery Dungeon games have good plots?

I'll be sure to pick up Explorers of Sky then, since it sounds like the 'third version' such as Platinum to Diamond and Peral, and they're always better.

The soundtrack is also the best I've heard in a Pokemon game as well. If the gameplay were as good as the rest of the features of the game, it'd be the best pokemon game ever made bar none.

Red/Blue Rescue Team is okay. Better than the main series of its time.

Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky is when it really gets good. Especially Sky.

Definitely grab Sky. It's Time/Darkness without the exclusive version bullshit, and also has extra features such as Spinda's Cafe and Special Episodes.

It's also the one with the best story. Gates to Infinity comes close, though.

Explorers is still the best story in my opinion as far as Mystery Dungeon games go. Despite the shortened length, Infinity still managed to have a nice story.

Only problem that Sky's story has now is that I'm expecting something good instead of being pleasantly blindsided by a good plot that Gates to Infinity had.

Any other good stories told within the franchise that I missed outside of PMD?

Explorers has an awesome story, probably the best Pokemon has ever had(this really isn't a stretch). It does suffer from Deus Ex Machina endings though, which is really its main issue,

Unlike most people here, I did not actually think much of the plot in Explorers's plot but I thought highly of Gates to Infinity's plot. Sure Explorers had a really good plot...for the last third of thereabouts Dark future onwards but the story in Infinity had me engaged almost all the tine when I was playing, mainly down to the vast improvement in characters. The partner was a joy to be around for the most part and Dunsparce/Emolga/Virizion/Espeon/Umbreon were far more fleshed out and interesting than the Wigglytuff Guild (The big weak point in Explorers's story) and didn't take too long to show up and get involved unlike Dusknoir and Grovyle.

You have good opinions and have actually tried the game for yourself. Gates had by far better story and characters, but a lot of people haven't played it and think that Explorers had better storyline just because they cried at the "end".

I've played it and still think the story in Explorers is better but the character development and characters overall in Gates was vastly better.

I barely noticed. I didn't know there was only 144 until I was almost at the end, and thinking back, having all 649 pokemon wouldn't have made too big of a difference. Not to mention I was too attached to the characters to play as any random recruits in their place anyway. As for the post game, I can imagine the issue flaring up more, but does it ruin the game? I doubt it.

Unless you want to see all Pokemon in 3d that badly, it's not really much of a con. If it had all Unova Pokemon I'd be perfectly fine and disregard the small count completely.

Its not too noticeable in the main storyline, sure. But after a while, you notice every dungeon has so many of the same pokemon. Salamence everywhere. 144 is just too few. I would've been fine with 300 (less than the first too) or heck, 250 really. I guess its too much work to put in 3d and its still a fun game, I just wish there were more pokes, thats all.
