New ability I could agree with, if you're shuffling or boosting stats as well as ability and completely redefining its role then it may as well be another pokemon.

Things like movepool, abilities and small changes in that manner are more interesting to discuss, I think.

Needs a much better ability than sun guard, something like Regenerator or even Natural Cure would be far superior. That could do him some favors. A better support movepool would also be good for him, like maybe Sleep Powder or Spore. I could see UU if he had all of these.

Using its Pokedex entry as reference, I'd give it more of the status-inflicting powder moves, and this new ability:
>Calming Aroma
>Reduces the opponent's ATK and Sp.ATK by 1 stage when either Pokemon is switched in.

Focus it on the defensive side of things, sacrifice 40 points off ATK and slap 20 into each of the defensive stats so you have an 80/40/121/83/121/80 spread.

Throw in some more neat support moves and you have a pretty cool tank.

Well his main thing is running around firing off Eruptions, he'd really love an ability that could help him do that. Stealth Rocks hurts him, so he would like magic guard (ignore stealth rocks damage, and get life orb boost without recoil, the eruption would rape anything not named heatran)

typhlosion would like a strong special electric move back he used to have thunderpunch but it got nerfed for him in the physical/special split. giving him something like thunderbolt would help him out a good bit, along with something like energy ball or scald.

This person is giving OP (ie me) a bad name. Whilst I think buffing stats is unnecessary I'm happy to hear ideas for shuffling of the stats, though I think it;s more realistic to discuss things like abilities and movesets, which seem far more likely to be able to change in the future.

Yeah but then his BST would be much higher than any of the other starters. That's why you can't just increase his stats without lowering something. Give him 105 SP atk and 105 Spe and give him 75 atk and 86 hp. Also I agree, give him moves like Aura Sphere and Earth Power. There, you have made Typhlosion realistically better.

Well you can't just raise his special atk willy nilly. You would need to lower something. So instead I increased his speed so that he can run an effective specs set. Plus it makes sense that he would be faster than Charizard.

So, bottom line, the only way to make Meganium not bad is to basically make it a new Pokemon. Adding some moves won't change the fact that its got shitty typing, stats that, while not bad, aren't particularly stellar and are squandered by its typing and bad abilities.

Anything that would make Meganium significantly better would have to be such a major change that you might as well call it a new Pokemon.

I'm counting 27 physical to 20 special. I'd say the main problem is simply in type variation; Typhlosion only gets 4 non-Fire/Normal types out of those 20, and with those 4 including Hidden Power and Focus Miss, even that's not saying a lot.

Baton Pass helps. A good ability such as Regenerator and Natural Cure would help a lot as well.

Broken abilities such as Magic Guard, Prankster or Drought would raise it's usage a lot, but that doesn't really make sense.

Hazards, a way to remove hazards (Rapid Spin wouldn't make sense but GF should definitely make a new move with a better distribution), support moves like Stun Spore, Wish, maybe Baton Pass or a move that can help give a free switch after it dual screens like U-turn or Explosion, maybe Rage Powder, Helping Hand, Wide/Fast Guard for better VGC usage, Recover > Synthesis, finally maybe access to Stone Miss or Rock Slide so it won't get walled to shit by Dragonite. Prankster is just a personality trait, so it's not too unusual but is pretty OP. For a tank it's amazing though. But I like the idea of Regenerator. Marvel Scale mite b cool, dunno if it makes sense but most reptiles have scales so why not?

I think it's stats are alright for UU. One of those shits walled me to death back in the days of the first Battle Frontier.
However, what makes Meganium so shit it's its complete lack of decent support moves.
That was the main reason why I disliked the thing, it's built like a tank but can't attack or setup or support for shit.
What irks me the most is that it doesn't look like giving it the average grass-type status moves would make sense, it's like this dinosaur/tropical flower thing that has no business at all with dust.
