They clearly aren't. Colour has nothing to do with type. Shedinja looks nothing like a ghost in colour scheme, for example.

Considering he drew the lake spirits as some trinity-thing, I'd assume he actually knows quite a lot. Galade isn't even drawn like a grass type, those don't have to be leaves on him if you don't look at them like they are. His chest spike has the same texture.

For shit's sake, they're supposed to be yokai. If the artist takes artistic liberty to make something different from the original to fit the demon look better, what's the big deal? He obviously incorporated t he good stuff that's fitting with the depictions, like children grabbing on to Drifloom.

I don't quite think that the artist intended to imply that stylised Gallade is of plant-like descent.
Rather, he tried to elaborate on the concept of extendable/retractable blades and put it down as a common highlight of this depiction.
