I never got a chance to play d/p/p when it first came out but after work today I noticed that gamestop had a used pearl version for a fair price so I decided to pick it up but i just can't decided on a starter any suggestions?

You have to be a bit more patient with piplup but they are all good to go
Grassknot on chimchar = wins
i love turtwig / torterra too, can take hits pretty well and wrecks kids

Chimchar. Literally your only option besides that if you're looking for a fire type is Ponyta. At least with Grass, Ground and Water you have more options

Either Chimchar or Grottle. Infernape is pretty beast and Torterra is good too, but I was left underwhelmed by Piplup/Empoleon.

One of the few awesome things from D/P is that the starters ended up countering each other in their final stages.

Choose Chimchar. Because it's powerful as fuck and Sinnoh has no more Fire pokémon

No matter how good at Pokemon you are, you can't skill past the tedious snow route nor the slow surf/waterfall speeds.

At best the best being decent at anything will do is allow you to realize you can transverse the half of the game that is Mt. Coronet with repels.

HOWEVER

Unless you wanna be stuck with a fucking Rapidash as your only Fire type, pick Chimchar. Easy decision anyway, since Infernape is one of the best final-evo starters period.

Empoleon's a goddamned emperor penguin with a a steel tuxedo. I believe he has the most resistances out of all existing pokemon or something like that too (or was that Magneton? I know they both have something like 11+)
