Like, Explorers introduced Monsterhouses and Traps halfway through the main game. Gates has them too, but Traps break once you step on them, and not once did a Trap ever fuck me over like it did in Explorers. In Explorers, I had to be careful of that shit because it was easily possible for a single Trap to destroy any chance of me getting a mission done. In Gates? Pssh.
And Hunger's not "not a big deal" like some people say. Some other anon mentioned it earlier but Hunger's only easy to deal with if you bring food along with you in the first place. Even if you prepared, luck could decide to screw you over and make you wander for a long time, making you waste your food. It was integral to the game and set a hard limit on how much you really wanted to explore, especially if you were in a dungeon you couldn't really handle as well as something easier. Gates doesn't have that, and it makes everything feel more tedious than tense.
I liked Gates' new dungeon mechanics, but... they don't really make up for the things it decided not to have until way later. I really wanted to enjoy Gates, but playing it just felt like a chore. I liked the story and graphics and music and shit but... I mean, that can't carry boring gameplay.
