Every starter was horribly outclassed.
Emboar is shit compared to Darmanitan.
Serperior is outclassed by Lilligant and Whimsicott and even Simisage.
Samurott sucks compared to Jellicent. Even Simipour is a better choice since it has more speed.

Emboar has better bulk and fighting STAB, Jellicent doesn't have nearly as much offensive power as Samurott, but I'll give you Serperior.

Emboar is slow as shit and Fire is a horrible deffensive type making his bulk useless. As for fighting STAB, if you want a good bulky Fighting type go with Conkeldurr or Scrafty.
Jellicent has a good dual STAB and has overall better bulk recover.

Sheer Force can be used on more survivable standards. Feraligatr also gets decent bulk.

Feraligatr theoretically gets sheer force. This would make him better offensively to Gyarados. Gyarados also has a quad weakness. Feraligatr is more bulky.
