Because the concept of being a "master eevee" is huge if it's the same type as Eevee.

The pinkribbon and silk scarf are both items in the game that boost normal type moves, which make up 80% of Sylveon's design.

Sylveon being an existing type is more likely than GF making a new type out of the blue for the sake of 5 Pokemon, this late into the game, where there are 655 of the buggers.

It has more ground than a lot of the other theories.

Their reasoning probably goes like this:

2. Gamefreak wouldn't add a new type because......(there's no need, they haven't for 10 years, occam's razor, whatever...)

I honestly thought dragon was a sort of unpopular theory, just wishful thinking. And that there were a lot more ghost/bug typers with how vocal they've been.

So you think Slugma and Magcargo should be pigeonholed into a type that doesn't really suit them?

I'm all for new types, I'd like to see a magma type with resistances of rock and ground but the weaknesses of fire. I think new types only make the game more expansive rather than trying to fit square pegs in round holes.

I think Fire/Rock is enough for a magma pokemon. That's what I'm saying: types CAN be combined in interesting, non-chimeric ways.

It's not really just 'heat' though.

Steam is just water vapor, you get steam just from sitting in a hot shower or something, it has nothing to do with fire. Sure there has to be some source of heat to this, but it's a far cry from fire.

Magma is a lot closer to rock and fire than steam is to fire/water.

Seriously. Sure, it might seem weird now to add a new type with 649 established Pokemon without the type, but in another five generations when we have almost 1500, it won't seem that strange that only the most recent thousand have any ???? types in them.

Now that's just dumb. Why not just relate Fire to heat? Should we not relate magnetism to electricity? You don't need a type for something that can easily fall into an existing type, especially one that's already pretty niche.

Maybe so but we already have moves like Weather ball and a lot of weather-related Pokemon and moves.

I'm just saying we should be welcoming new types, not trying to force them into existing boxes.

Well we would obviously need more Pokemon before we can start branching off. I mean, Fairy will be a seed sewn to last a long time but I think over the general course of Pokemon I'd love to see loads of new types.
