Do you guys really think someone dude from /vp/ guessed the type correctly? I mean, why is everyone convinced the new type is "fairy"?

I never understood the theory behind it. All I know is that all of the sudden EVERYONE here was talking about Sylveon and it being a fairy type.

I come to /vp/ sporadically. I usually come where when there's Pokemon news or sometimes when i feel like it. This is hardly my home board. That's why i asked. I saw Sylveon in /v/ (And offcourse they all hated it because MUH GEN ONE!)

Then i came here and people were discussing it's type. Sometme later I come back to recieve mystery eggs and BLAMMO. Everyone is either convinced it's a fairy type, or that people who think it's a fairy type is a fucking retard.

OP, it's because 12 year olds can't convince themselves it can be flying type if it doesn't have wings, and they can't correlate between "sylph" and wind/air/anything besides a literal translation to "fairy"

according to him, haxorus should've been an axe type pokemon, cryogonal should've been a crying type pokemon, and vanillite should've been a vanilla type pokemon.

additionally, they're convinced of GF adding a type/types, why i have no idea, but it really doesn't make sense to add types after gen 1 to balance out OP psychic types and then add more types 4 gens later when everything has been fine up until that point.

sylveon will be flying or ghost or maybe normal. period.

And Gyarados is horribly typed: It should've been dragon, but it wasn't because then dragon would have been much easier to get in Gen I. Even then, Gyarados still obviously relates to flying through the legend it's based off and those fish kite things.

I concede that I was wrong on Leafeon and Glaceon's eye colors.
Still, a ghost pokemon wouldn't have eyes like that, and would instead have something like Umbreon or plain white eyes, not shiny blue ones; a flying pokemon wouldn't have eyes very different than the others.

Bigger, brighter eyes, fit with it being magical or good.

It's a pretty big stretch considering that it's name is SYLVeon, not SYLPHeon. No other eeveelution needs to stretch it's name that far. VAPOReon, JOLTeon, FLAREon, UMBReon, ESPeon, GLACEon, LEAFeon. Based on it's name I'd actually have to say it's a ghost type thats found in wooded areas. Sylph is possible but sylv/sylvan is MUCH closer to sylveon. Flying is still a good possibility though.

It looks impossibly girlish. Why make a flying type that looks like that, when the other eevees look neutral and obviously their types?

Maybe it's a Dragon type because muh patterns, but it's based mostly wise, shape-shifting dragon lore. The name Sylveon comes from Sylvan Learning, because they wanted you to do research on history, nature and mythology to try and figure out the type.

If it's a new type that'll be silk not fairy, because off all the names referencing silk worms and it's main distinguishing feature being silk ribbons (not even tinkerbell has huge silk ribbons, this is not a fairy thing).

There has been no confirmation of any 'fairy' type official or otherwise, not even from the black and white pokedex leek guy (who they would never trust with unrelesed information again after that even if the joker still had his job).

If a new type is rumoured then you have to ask yourself what might it be strong against and week against and what reasons would there be for that. Now unless you can pick out at least 2 strenghs and two weeknesses (a third might be provided by the other two new types if you assume GF would make a new triangle to keep things ballenced) Then there is zero chance that it will be a new type.

Lets try that with Silk:
Strong against:
>Electricity
Reason: a wipe with a silk cloth can get rid of static electricity
>Water
Reason:Silk gets more hard wearing when wet

Weaknesses
>Steel
Reason: Silk is very easy to cut with scissors
>Fire
Reason: Silk burns really fast and ignites easy.

Lets try the same with fairy... Nope I can't think of any obvious strengths and weaknesses for that either (and don't say "But Dragonz iz brokon! fairy will be strong." dragon is not broken it is a walkover with an ice pokemon and in anycase it makes no sense to have a fairy able to stand up to a dragon as traditionally dragons push fairys around).

Just gonna throw out my crazy opinion "A fairy is a type of mythical being or legendary creature, a form of SPIRIT, often described as metapshysical, supernatural or preternatural."

"In traditional belief and fiction, a ghost is the soul or SPIRIT of a dead person or animal that can appear in visible form or other manifestation, to the living."

In mythology Sylv or Sylvan can refer to "deities or SPIRITS of the wood."

Ghost is the type most closely associated to the idea of spirits which is something all 3 have in common with each other which leads me to believe that sylveon is based on some sort of fairy/spirit and MIGHT be a Ghost type in the sense of it being a spirit. Actually, isn't Frosslass based on some kind of ice spirit? and Frosslass is a ghost type.
Maybe I'm just grasping at straws. Anyones welcome to join me in the ghost zone if they want.

in some sense ghost would be awesome and a pattern-breaker to end all pattern-breakers. we haven't seen a ghost type like this yet but ghost types have been getting more varied and less edgy/dark over generations. with jellicent and golurk being great examples

Gyarados' typing comes from the tale of the Carp that jumped over the dragon gate and became a dragon.

However, I believe it was acting like a dick so it was demoted to a flying serpent fish instead.

Also people will tell you time and again that Water/Dragon would make it too good. It's only weakness would be dragon, and in Gen 1, the only Dragon type move was Dragon Rage which did fixed damage.

If you can believe that GF will pull a new type out of their ass after so long just because the new eeveelution doesn't seem to fit the already existing types (because the only thing suggesting a new type right now is this), not to mention change the recurring pattern of new eeveelutions coming in pairs of two with one strong against the other, then you can also believe that they might change that part of the eeveelution pattern too.

No matter which choice you pick, Sylveon will be breaking muh patterns, so I don't get why people are fixated in one option while insisting the other is absurd. Specially because they're using muh patterns as part of the argument, which is something that goes both ways, since Sylveon has to way to be without breaking some pattern.
