Didn't really care about any of the others. I thought Basculin had some potential if it had a neat gimmick, but it didn't so I was a bit disappointed when I played the game.

Those look pretty alright actually. Gen 5 was a really good gen. I'd even say every gen had an even number of good and bad additions. Anyone who honestly says only the first 2 gens had good designs are talking out of their ass.

On the contrary, starters and legendaries ARE dex filler. Along with rodents, birds, and bugs.

Pidove, the starters, Leavanny/Scolipede, Basculin, the Djinn, Victini, Deino. They're all filler. Doesn't make them not awesome.

I wish I'd been paying attention to new Pokemon back when Black and White speculation was going on. Sadly, I'd only just gotten back into the series after four years of being too old for it, and I was catching up with Platinum and HeartGold.
But I remember passing a very enjoyable afternoon on Bulbapedia, looking at all the Gen 5 Pokemon. I particularly remember liking the elemental monkeys and Cofagrigus.

Disliked Baskulin. Still do. I've never really warmed up to any fish-like Pokemon, since I find them to be pretty bland and uninteresting.

Loved Lillipup. Adorable.

Loved Purrloin. Also adorable.

Disliked Cofagrigus. I didn't think it looked much like a Pokemon, but he's grown on me a lot since. I think he funny and endearing in a goofy way.

Liked Haxorus. I was hoping for a winged Pseudo Legendary Dragon after Garchomp, but it doesn't really make or break Haxorus for me. He's cool.

Loved Galvantula. That shit is the cutest fucking thing.

Pretty "meh" towards Excadrill. Still am today. He looks alright and his typing is great, but the drill on his head is very awkwardly designed. It doesn't look like it "fits" well.

My two prevalent thoughts were along the lines of "OMG CUTE PUPPY" and "FUCK YEAH SARCOPHAGUS POKEMON". I thought the tarantula one was pretty cool too.

Funny thing is, even though I love its design, I've never actually used a Cofagrigus. Lillipup made for a Zigzagoon-tier bro, though.

Then as I played the game learn to love lilipup for stoutland and herdier. Purrloin and Liepard weren't as great as I thought they would be. Haxorus grew on me and Galvantula started becoming a bro.
Cofagrigus grew on me as well and I actually like his design now.
Excadrill is still awesome

That sarcophaghost is cool as fuck, that second thing literally has an axe for a face, Tarantesla is a cute little bugger and that mole thing might be neat if it puts its hands together to turn into a drill like a goddamned transformer.

Even though I like them, that was my first reaction (except for Gigalith, I hated him).
In most of cases that's my reaction, I "whatted" even when gen VI starters were revealed for about 5 seconds, then I noticed they were actually amazing.
