I've been out of the loop since HeartGold/SoulSilver but I really want to get back in the Pokemon.

Should I get B/W, B/W2, or just wait until X/Y? If I were to go with either of the two former, how would the experience be for someone jumping back in? Any radical changes?

I'd get either B and B2 or W and W2

Alright, just not sure what my range is. I've got other stuff to do, don'tchaknow.

If I had to choose just B/W or B/W2, which is preferable for a newcomer? I'm sure the difference between Black and White is negligible and just the typical "different pokemon in different games" schtick.

BW is a great game for "newcomers" since it basically restarts the story in a new region with totally new pokemon.
BW2 is a sequel, so playing BW before is advisable. It doesn't focus as much on the storyline but it has tons of extra stuff and content.

I guess pokemon black/white has a better story than B2W2... but that's not really saying much.

Otherwise B2/W2 is better in every other way. Post game content is far superior, it's barely existent in the first

I believe that there have been five people in human existence that do this.

So I'm imagining that my best bet would be to pick up B/W2 when I can. Awesome, thank you all.

How are previous generations represented in B/W2? Is every pokemon (barring, say, starters and legendaries) obtainable?

It's not as much as BW2 but it's still a lot.

that never has or will be the case in any game without transferring/trading. I wouldn't be surprised if it has the most pokemon available between obtainable pokemon and the dream world

B/W 2 have the BIGGEST national dex yet with Pokemon from every region being obtainable.
It also has hard mode!

Well, I just meant that there's a lot of past pokemon. Which is good!

But what exactly is this "Dream World" thing? I know that it can give pokemon special new abilities.

That's awesome to hear.

I just want to have my Sandslash in easy reach. Seriously, I love that prickly pangolin. He's been a favorite of mine since my first game.

Nintendo's attempt at a Facebook flash game. Some minigames are fun, though, but if you're just gonna play the story then I wouldn't bother though you CAN get Pokemon that you can't get in the games.
