Why does it take so long for the Pokemon anime to be subbed when much more obscure ones get subbed and put online two seconds after they air in Japan?

Does the Pokemon anime have that demanding of a following? Subs aren't really necessary to understand the plot and main events of each typical episode, and most people who watch the Pokemon anime regularly are kids and young teens who are fine with the dub.
