I play the ds ones on flashcarts. Let's me keep all my games in one place, plus easily back up saves and have multiple saves (Really helps when one of my brothers wants to play.) I own most of the games, I just like the convenience.

I can't speak for other countries, but that is how it works in the USA and why ROMs are perfectly legal. If you own the game, then there is no legal reason for you to not be able to download the version for extra saves. You have already payed for the game, after all.

you can back up the game by dumping it yourself but downloading roms is still illegal.

I'm actually not even sure about the dumping roms thing either.

I used cartridges first. Later on, I recently started playing ROM hacks, BlazBlack and VoltWhite becauseI wanted a challenge and I got one. Still playing BlazeBlack 2 because fuck GameFreak for giving White 2 owners the easy mode and allowing it to be unlocked after you beat the Elite 4.

If I have the money and it's a good game, I buy it for cartridge. I'm also going to purchase a copy of X when it comes out.

Other than that, I can't really live without the emulation speed boost. It's the only thing that ever made Diamond bearable.
