Hey guys. The other thread has mysteriously disappeared and I didn't see a new one.

We are making a Pokemon game in the Wild West, and we need help from designers and especially from programmers.

One question to discuss: What do we want from our legendaries and pseudo-legendaries?

That would be good. They match the location and it helps diversify the typings. About the legendaries, I think we're having a relatively small number of Fakemons so there shouldn't be many.

I looked over some mineral names for the towns and cities. A few of them seem good enough to use as long as you take away the -ite suffix. I put an asterisk next to the ones I like.

Also, I think we should use a different naming convention for the Tribes. maybe something that is related to each tribe's real world equivalent

so far the tribes will be:

>one plains
>one swamp

Some kind of electric legendary with the incarnation of a horse-like animal or another quadruped. Even better, some kind of thunderbird (as such a form is recurring in Native American mythology).

The Lakota legends of the Unhcegila beasts are also intriguing. Perhaps an extinct legendary Rock/Dragon type?

In a normal sense, I'd love to see a proper carnation of a horse Pokémon and a wolf Pokémon. Especially the wolf. Sand-drakes would also be interesting. Maybe a bad-ass (and much needed) evolution of Dunsparce.

I like that idea. It makes sense too. I doubt the Tribes would want to be known in the same way as those in the cities. How about a tree or flower naming convention?

These are preliminary names for main-game towns. I did not name the oasis because i don't know how big of a settlement it is.

I chose Ferrous City because it would be a company town (which were beginning to become prevelant in the 1880s) built around the Corp. Thus the bland name.

Waterfall added, so you can pan for gold and waterfalls are cool.

Maybe there could be a strike at Coaldust Mines which you have to break up, reason undecided.

I thought everything sounded good, but feel free to comment

As for legendaries, I like the idea of a white bison. I suggest making it a Normal/Ghost type. Which is a pretty powerful combination, but I think a Legendary deserves it.

Rivals are fun, as long as we're careful to not go full retard like the /vp/mon project where they literally have over EIGHT pairs of rival pokémon. Last time I checked anyway, they might have made more. I swear they get boners from pairing pokémon with counterparts or something.

I think a Ground/Steel Armadillo Pokemon could be awesome. Kinda like a mix between Aggron and Donphan also.

Aron, Lairon, and Aggron
Phanphy, Donphan
Trapinch, Vibrava , and Flygon
and such should be in the gamr.

Pokemon Rangers could be relevant to the story.

An Oasis should appear and reappear somewhere so they can catch some rare water mons. Kinda like the Desert tower in Emerald.

Wait, a Good, Bad, Ugly trio? Missed that, sorry. Last time I saw one of these threads the other day, it seemed like a bison spirit was a popular candidate, but I guess that must have changed recently.
Personally I don't really like legendaries, and think that one trio and one or two solo legendaries is enough.

How about the Ugly being the first corp created pokemon, but it escaped, so the corp created the Bad which also escaped, but the corp placed a tracker on it, so they could find it (and knowing that it would go after the Good, they know they could find it too)

The Corp's main plan is to sell the Good to the highest bidder (because using it to take over the world is cliche)

I could make up some none-Native Tribes if you like such as Gamblers, Ranch Hands, and Wanted.

I had two ideas that maybe you could use. Wanted System, where if you can beat Criminal Class Trainers you get extra monies. The Higher the Criminal Ranking the Higher the Payout but they are also objectively stronger.

The other is make a move called Rush that let's you ride Quadrupeds outside of battle. It would replace the bike and be a better version of quick attack.

The reason I suggested it was because how in a lot of "Late Westerns" the arrival of the automobile portended the end of the Wild West. Since it would come late-game, it's appearance would be a bittersweet reminder that you're nearing the end of your adventure (barring post game, of course)

This is gonna sound mean guys, but Earth and Iron are really shitty names, no h8 pls. I think we need something that represents opposites or at least something even kinda on the same plain, not something as specific as iron and something as broad as earth. Of course, though, the titles are always based on the legendary trio (set aside Gen Juan). Since these would be based on the good, the bad, and the ugly, I think the main titles would be the Good and the Bad. So should we wait until we have set designs for these characters, or should we start brainstorming now?

On an unrelated note, I've always had an idea for there to be a trio that is the Id, the Ego, and the Superego. If there's any part of this story line involving something psychological, could we include these?

An evolution line based on character of a hopeless drunk that discovers religion:
Stage one is a drunk, haggard wallaby that carries around a barrel of booze. Similar to Slaking in that he's got amazing stats but a debilitating ability (always confused).Typing would be Fire/Poison.
He evolves by having him faint in battle and then letting a Preacher Class trainer revive him (they function the same as doctors in Gen V), The Wallaby now looks dignified and uses the now empty booze barrel as a podium. Typing would be Fire/Psychic

I know that this has nothing to do with the desert, but for a really long time I've had this idea about a fakemon that I though was kinda cool. Have you ever heard of a Star-Nosed Mole? It would take this name literally. Essentially, it'd start out as a Fire kawaii rodent creature with a flame on its nose, and evolve into a Rock/Fire (dat 4x water weakness) huge rodent that would be able to fly by completely engulfing itself in flames and turning itself into a comet-like thing. I came up with some ideas for names- Soldent (Solar + Rodent) for 1, Molaris (Mole + Polaris) for the second. Sorry, I just kinda wanted to get this out there.

I had an idea for a Dark Type Shadow Gecko. It was basically a molted black colored Pokemon that could compress it's body so tightly that it can become thin enough to appear like a shadow from any angles. It had high speed and a Unique ability that increased it's evasion stats and such. It basically had High Speed and High Special Attack but poor defenses and HP. Frail as fuck but it would extremely hard just to hit it as a result. It evolved into a bulkier black lizard with lower speed but higher defenses and it's final evolution was a dragon type lizard with slow speed stat but high spdef, moderate hp, and great taking stats. Maybe it could a fakemon?

well, my friend map man/guy/dude (can't remember) told me about this. Thought it would be awesome. I'll try to contribute as much as I can, though I'm not much in the way of art or anything, but I might have a few good ideas. If this is primarily in a desert, the legendary pokemon would be ice/water and similar things that aren't common in a desert.

Here we go:
we could have a digger owl. It would be a ground/flying. It would have much in the way of flying attacks, can't learn fly, etc. It would be fast, have lots of health, put little attack and defense. The only reason to keep it would be its potential with its health. This pokemon would basically replace zubats. THEY WOULD BE FUCKING EVERYWHERE!!!
(Thinking an evolution would be to a great horned owl type thing. Same types, but its attack and speed would go up, leaving it with still low defense)

So this map has directional lines added to it, they denote a logical order of the cities from a story perspective. Your character can always go offroad

And Port Ralston would have the 2nd or 3rd gym leader, and would introduce the train system. you would then get on a train back to [hometown]

the first 3 look like starter. the fire one might work, but we didn't want it to be a fire,grass,water triangle.

Also remember that our fakemon count would be in the 30-50 range

I like 8D, 10B, 12A, 12B, 16C (although getting them to fit the theme might be hard) 16D, 5B and 5C.

6A resembles the Jackalope far too closely, and we are 100% sure on having a jackalope legendary

About the starters: it seems like the general idea is to have starters that deviate from the Grass-Water-Fire triangle. So why still have a fire type? I get that it's forms a triangle with Rock and Steel, but...

So to expand on the idea of a Preacher Class trainer:
They function like Doctors/Nurses in GenV-healing your Pokemon after you have beaten them. However, preachers are not as easy to offer their blessings. Each shares a bond with a Legendary Pokemon that you must overcome to prove yourself worthy.

Each Preacher, when you begin a battle, gives a Bible-like verse related to their pokemon before starting the battle:
"With the wisdom gleaned from Pokemon, we now seek to improve them? Do we dare think ourselves better than the architects of Babel?" (Mewtwo)
"Blessed be this Pokemon, so simple and elegant. There are no secrets it cannot master, no wisdom which it doesn't know." (Mew)
"What is a lifetime to the age of the world? Praised be the Pokemon that sees the Kingdom of Peace as but a moment away." (Celebi).
"Show awe before the Leviathan, who hath been given dominion over the seas." (Kyogre).
"O Alpha Pokemon, who art above, hallowed be Thy name." (Arceus).
and so on.
Given the Pokemon they have, they are very rare and hard to find. In fact, beating them is a prerequisite to make their Legendaries available to capture.

The strongest of these trainers, of course, is the Dark Preacher Crowle, who has a lvl. 100 Darkrai. "While you seem to be a virtuous spirit, I know a Pokemon of Wealth and Taste that'd like to make a proposition..."

Is it safe to assume that town 1 is the starter town? Maybe something to do with Silicates, since they are the most common mineral grouping.

and then just some other minerals/elements/whatever:

Antimony- Can be used in medicine, flame retardant, hardening alloy for steel
Barium - Additive in oil well drilling, radiography, white pigment
Feldspar - rock forming, glass and ceramics, soap
Gypsum - Used in industrial and building plaster, cement, and agricultural stuff.
Nickel - Needed as an alloy to make stainless steel
Sulfur - Smells like shit, used in fertilizer, sulfuric acid.

So far, I'm liking the story direction looks good. The only thing is I think too many easter-eggs will make it a joke of a game. Like one or two will be cool... But as they say, less is more.

I'm not sure about beating them so that the player can catch the legendary. I do like the idea of them serving as the doctors and spouting verses before and after you defeat them. In regards to legendaries that didn't exist at the time, they could speak in prophecy. For Mewtwo, "There will come a time where Man becomes so proud, that he believes that he can create the ultimate Pokemon," or something of the sort.

I was thinking the same thing for the Lizard. I was also thinking about him getting like decked out in rock armor for his final form and focusing more on defense and attack than speed. Perhaps the bison could focus on speed, and the fire one could focus on attack.

I think the Scorpion would be a better choice, although making it scorpion would pretty much imply that it'd need to be bug type as well. That'd cause a 4x weakness to Rock to start off with.

Why? Poison is like the worst type in the entire game. I had this weird idea, though, that in the final evolution, each one gets a secondary type that gives it an advantage over a type they were at a disadvantage to. For example, a Fire type might gain a Fighting (ohgodpleasenoItakethisback) or Ground secondary type so that they are no longer at a disadvantage to Rock types, and a Rock type might gain a type that's good against Steel, and Steel might gain one that's good against Fire.

Oddly enough, it turns out that Ground is strong against all three starter types. Could this mean something?

Shit, yeah. I do think we should have a type for the PL that isn't Dragon, though. How does something like Fire/Electric sound? It could be like some sort of monster reptile thing that had two arm cannons; one shot out fire, one shot out electricity. It'd have really high special attack.

I actually went ahead and came up with what I though was a kinda-cool concept. Basically, it starts out as this baby humanoid thing with these pouches underneath its arms that it keeps closed by holding it up. The pouches are filled with sand that it produced by the Pokemon. It can do cool stuff with it like release it while spinning around and making a little sandstorm (it would thus be called the "Dust Devil Pokemon", or maybe something else). BY its final stage, it would have these huge cannons under its arms that shot out the sand and maybe even stuff like fireballs, just 'cuz. It would specialize in special attack (perhaps having like 160 in this field).
