Out-of-water would probably be a special type, and we'd probably lump land-dwelling and air creatures together.

On the other hand, we might make distinctions like freshwater/sea type, or deep-sea type (like dark) as deep sea creatures are quite different. Coral type, maybe. It just depends what would appear more salient to us as sea creatures.

Also, "fire" probably wouldn't be a type as it would feature so little in our lives. Perhaps other phenomena that seem odd to us would seem more common to sea creatures and more viable as types. Bioluminescence, for example. Also maybe we'd make distinctions for different animal types, like Cephalopod or Crustacean type or something. Sounds odd, but we do have bug type...

I think merpeople would use underwater volcanoes for multiple purposes requiring high temperatures or energy
Because of this merpeople would have probably already studied everything that happens inside of volcanoes and at some point come up with the existence of fire

Types like poison, electric, ground, steel, dark, psychic, fighting, grass, rock, water, dragon, normal, bug, Ice and ghost would probably exist too, perhaps with some changes like grass being algae, ground sand and so on.

Then there are some types that would probably be a completely different thing like fire or flying

Normal (= water to us)
Fighting?
Amphibian? (= Flying)
Poison
Sand (= Ground)
Rock
Crustacean (= Bug)
Ghost
(Steel's gone)
Steam (= Fire)
Terra (= normal)
Algae (= grass)
(no idea what to do with electric)
Psychic
Ice
Dragon (though their idea of a dragon is likely different from ours)
Deep (= dark)
