Really, even back in Gen II I thought Blue had a better taste in Pokemon than Red. Assume he has a Venusaur instead of that Exeggutor and that's one awesome-looking and awesome-fighting team.

Oshawott is Black's canon starter.

Think about it just design-wise. If you pick Oshawott (the quiet, calm looking one) then Bianca gets Tepig (the happy-go-lucky, naïve looking pig) and Cheren gets Snivy (the douchy smug snake). It makes perfect sense.

The point of Shell Smash is that it breaks the heavy shell that armors the monster, then it gains speed+attack but lowers the defense.

Samurott would just loose the helmet.
