Yellow.
Not a whole lot to say about my starter choice there.

In a related note, I'd seen a few episodes of the anime before I ever played Yellow. When I got to Pewter City, I spent a lot more time than I care to recall wandering around looking for some way to supercharge Pikachu, like Ash did in the show.

Reminds me a bit of what I did. I just went for using Slam to beat Brock, but I was wondering if he was ever going to join me on my journey. Once I got past Pewter and realized that he wasn't, I stopped trying to follow Ash's adventure and went on my own.

Same here.

I chose charmander the most though out of all the times I've played it over.

And I've had the best results with Bulbasaur.

All 3 kinda had their special bond with me.

First time I played Yellow, I didn't get past Pewter until I had gotten Pikachu to level 23 or something.

Made it easier to beat Misty though.

First starter ever was a Charmander on Red. I didn't quite know how to read very well, so he probably had a nickname that was all funny characters and jumbled capital letters.
The first starter I was actually attached to, though, was Chikorita in Gold.

Oh hell yes. And when I went into the Pokemon Center in Viridian City for the first time, I thought that the nurse telling me that I had to have a friend with me to enter a certain room (or whatever she said, I don't remember the exact words), it lead me to believe that Brock would start following me around after I beat him.
