Does Game Freak really need to add a generic Rattata replacement and a generic Pidgey replacement in every gen? They're always the most boring pokemon and nobody ever actually uses them past the second town (with the possible exception of Staraptor). And with fewer and fewer Pokemon being added every generation, it seems like kind of a waste to have 5 slots reserved for generic normal-type woodland creatures.
