the balance issue wasn't with the type but the amount of bug moves that could do super effective damage to it.

if x-scissor or megahorn exsisted and were well distributed in gen I it wouldn't have been an issue

eh, Kanto hasn't really aged well as a region. Not much variety, not to mention that NPC trainers stood in patterns where it was painfully obvious the game designers didn't seems them as "people" but rather obstacles.

Would say that the (lack of) story is one of the best things about gen 1. It's delicious vanilla ice cream.

Good: Continuation (as in story wise), Dark/Steel types, breeding & Day/Night Cycle
Bad: Aesthetically.. odd. It felt shorter than Gen I.

III:

Good: Region design, Pokemon designs
Bad: The teams didnt make sense, All the surfing..

IV:

Good: Legendary Mythology, psycho Team Boss (HG & SS remake)
Bad: Tedious region, forgettable (at least for me it is)

V:

Good: The reboot style of it, Pokemon designs, story, music, animated sprites, Gethis' character design (not aesthetic)
Bad: Difficulty completing the Pokedex due to not having working copies of previous games, not being able to retransfer Pokemon back to D/P/Pl, Team Plasma (aesthetic)

Ironically.. my favorite region was Hoenn. Interesting exercise. Though I had to think a bit.

Gen I:
G: The blueprint, the foundation of the franchise
B: Quite forgettable, not much else to do after beating the E4

Gen II (favorite gen game-wise):
G: Gen I started with, lots of post-game content
B: Some of the pokes were forgettable, atrocious level-scaling, weak Kanto leaders (fixed in HG/SS)

Gen III:
G: Nice Environment and atmosphere, introduced natures and abilities
B: Not much post-game content, SOME backtracking issues

Gen IV (favorite Dex-wise):
G: Physical/Special split, Best starter balance thus far
B: Too HM reliant, Defog

Gen V:
G: Infinite TMs, introduces a variety of new type combinations
B: Insane post-game level spike (B1/W1 only)

Good: Game I have the most nostalgia for because it was such a happy time in my life. Some of my favorite Pokemon designs. Raykwaanza (Pokemon of African Holidays).

May and her fine tits and ass. Awesome music (okay, the trumpets were a bit much)

Bad: No more day and night system, not quite as large as GS

IV:
Good: It was... er... prettier?

Bad: Did not care about the story. At all. Same goes for most of the Pokemon designs. Seemed slower.

V:
Good: One of the better stories in the series. A few cool new monsters. Loved the new TM system.

Bad: A majority of the Pokemon designs didn't appeal to me. I was hoping the series would go fully 3D by this point.

IVs were introduced in Gen II though. And while it's still a grind now, EVs were WAY worse before R/S/E. Like, "you had to slaughter 1,300 dittos to max out your stats" worse.

> Kanto felt very boring, most of the cities were too similar. No actual plot. Very few interesting designs. Repetitive types/not enough creatures for some types such as Ghost or Dragon. Nothing to do after beating E4.

Gen II:
> Introduced new types, eggs, gender, new evolution methods... Pretty good battle sprites. Good music.
> Most Pokémon designs were too bland. Baby Pokémon. Not enough new Pokémon. It didn't make sense by itself, it felt like a "Pokémon RBY 2".

Gen III:
> Beautiful region. Lots of interesting and varied creatures. Interesting starters and legendaries. Rare Pokémon (such as Feebas) were very hard to find, had lots of mysteries (such as the regi trio's). Contests. Very good music. Emerald was fantastic (better trainers + Battle Frontier).
> Tentacools and Wingulls. Too much backtracking. Not being able to get the event legendaries.

Gen IV:
> Memorable music. Mt. Coronet. GTS. The best Pokémon cries, in my opinion. Competitive battling got better.
> Felt too slow. Incredibly uninteresting Pokémon designs, specially the evolutions of older Pokémon. Had an absurd number of legendaries that didn't make sense or that shouldn't have appeared yet (why would we want a God Pokémon?).

Gen V:
> Realistic plot. Interesting characters. Great designs, unique type combinations, strong Pokémon. Animated sprites and battle animations. Best music in the main series, in my opinion. PWT.
> Too linear. Didn't introduce any new creature that was linked to older Pokémon.
