I do, because I like the creative touch, like a clever pun or reference, or the personal connection, like naming a friend's favorite pokemon after them.

My favorite nicknames I've ever done were "Hulkster" and "Macho Man", the names of my Azumarill and Hariyama way back when in Emerald. They were so much fun to double-battle with.

Since HeartGold, I've been naming all the Pokemon I intend to use after Beatles songs. It gets really tricky with the ten character limit.

Naming my Pokemon is the exact same thing. Only on a grander scale.

I used to never name them. Then I decide to nickname every pokemon I caught. Then I decided to nickname only the pokemon I would use.
It's fun to name them. like having a virtual pet. If you had a cat would you name it cat? Giving a Pokemon names lets me enjoy them in a way that goes beyond just playing a game.

I couldn't bare giving them nicknames. It sounded stupid, thinking "why don't they yell their nicknames?", but then I realized; a clefairy yelling DOOMGAZER or a charmander yelling DOG would have been unbelievably stupid. Likewise, they call out their name, yet they don't call out the name you give them; that would be confusing after some time.

I do have a clefairy named DOOMGAZER though. That's probably the only nicknamed pokemon I own.

Something like this, but switching the second and third sentences. When I started HeartGold, I planned on nicknaming only the Pokémon that I used in Gold as a tribute to my soon-to-die team. Then I started nicknaming every Pokémon I caught, as a challenge to see how quickly I could come up with a name that I liked.

I do, I used to think it was stupid but after watching a lot of shows/playing a lot of games and gaining a lot of favourite characters from them. I can see the spice that it adds to the game. (obviously I name my pokes after some of my fav characters). It gives me more of a connection to my pokemon
