Alright, /vp/. I'm restarting SoulSilver, but I have no idea what would be a good team as I've never actually finished it.. How many team members can I actually have, considering the god-awful level grind?
I'm open to suggestions for the team; my starter will be Totodile. Go go go.

My team was
Ampharos - GOAT use it
Gengar - Using Curse helped take care of plenty Pokemon my team probably couldn't handle, helps to deal with the level gaps
Togekiss - It was alright
Victreebel - sucked, don't use one
Quagsire - I'd use it again
Typhlosion - obviously you won't use this

Train in threes, it works best. Also, those Pokemon's locations are pretty distant from each other.

What should someone use on their third attempt at HG who has already used Heracross, Ampharos, Crobat and every starter except Chikorita?

I just want to finish this game. It's so obtuse, I have no idea how I beat Gold as a kid.

I'd suggest getting an Ampharos and an Espeon. They're really good.
Don't get a Lickylicky or a Forretress though. I had them in my last run, and they were fucking useless.

Gengar's pretty good. I personally like it more than Espeon, even though it's the best Eeveelution in your case.

Mamoswine is useful in-game. In-game battling is much different from competitive play.
