When I was 10 my family ran into some financial problems and we had to move as a result. The move cost me my friends and my relationship with my family. I remember my first day at my new school, I watched the class tear apart this kid for no reason other than they could. After they broke him down, they turned to me and tried to do the same. I managed to keep it together but that just meant they'd try harder the next day. I was miserable, I went from having my crush chase me around the playground to fighting off wannabe drug dealers and gangsters, but no one would listen to me.
My parents were always at work and the school kept me and my brother seperated most of the day. When I got home the only time I had left was to finish homework, eat dinner, and play Pokemon. I had lost contact with all of my old friends in the move, so to me my Pokemon meant everything. Gold was my escape and the only thing I cared about. About a month into the move my Gameboy Color's screen ripped, my escape was gone. My parents said they would get me a GBA for Christmas, but that was four months away. Four months where I had no where to turn and no one who I could trust. I spent night after night dreaming about my old friends only to wake up and deal with people with no goals in life other than making mine worse.
Unwrapping my Gameboy Advance was one of the happiest moments of my life, I had my escape back. Then March came and I saw a commercial for Wind Waker, I asked if I could get it for my birthday went with my parents to pre-order it so I could get OoT. After paying for WW I ran to the pick-up window with my ticket for OoT, only to find a poster for Ruby and sapphire waiting. A new Pokemon game was coming, and I needed it. I got home and started thinking of ways to save up money, I thought about selling some Yugioh cards, but all I had was jank. My mom was overprotective so odd jobs were out of the question. My only hope was that I'd get enough birthday money to buy it.
