One of the core ideas of Digimon is that they imitate and take on the form of ideas and information floating around on the Internet. EVERYTHING that can be imagined can be a digimon. However, the problem is that information gets crossed and you end up with crazy mixes of junk that never did exist, not even in your imagination. It is possible for the thing to come out not being a mix, though. True, by definition, this would make them all a Digimon, but consider this: in all the parallel realities, the Digimon can emerge into our world as flesh and blood creatures. Then, the only thing preventing them from being Pokemon is that the technology to keep a creature in a pokeball does not exist. (To me, this is ALL that defines a Pokemon) The flaw in this, though, is if you have a form of digivice, then it being in our world no longer matters, and it's still a Digimon. For all digivices I know, we don't have the technology yet for that, either, but at least it's easier to convert and transmit energy than to turn matter to energy and back. (I don't know how the Xros Loader works for digivolutions, but all others uses the human's own energy to induce it. From what I've heard, the Xros Loader does not require this since even the Digimon THEMSELVES can use one)
