You're using Sylveon as evidence with the context of other Eeveelutions, but judging Reshiram independently. First, the games are called "black and white"--which to not lead us to any typing unless there is a new light type. Moreover, Reshiram came with Zekrom--their aesthetics are opposites, and the term "black and white" means opposites or a dichotomy. While Reshiram itself isn't enough to justify the light type, its appearance in tandem with Zekrom did. They represent yin/yang, and this is a popular thing for things like video games to do--see BEWD and REBD from Yugioh.
And guess what? As much sense as it made, it turns out that wasn't the case. GF comes up with concepts and make it into a product. They have no real reason to change what's working. But we see the product, and have no perspective on the concepts behind us--we see this pokemon completely backwards from the process of its creation, which gives us a bias towards fanciful speculation and hype/wish fulfillment. But if Sylveon ends up normal and Xerneas ends up...anything really, I'm sure it will make sense.
I can't rule out a fairy typing, but I'm skeptical--and saying that it's more than likely is just dumb.
