Actually Ash's Pikachu used to be cool at the beginning. It was funny, being cowardly, stubborn and lazy sometimes, but now it just seems to don't have any personality, and it's just a generic hero.
But Pikachu as a species is nice. It's cute and I'm ok with it as the mascot. But I don't like how the Pikachu's design changed over the time, I prefer the old fat Pikachu, it was so much cute.
