Also, she's just a joy to watch on screen; her mannerisms and personality provide an interesting contrast to Ash's boldness and to Brock's stalwartness. She's the first truly "girly girl" to have been a major part in Ash's life, and yet is still memorable in her dreams and aspirations that we recognize from the beginning of her journey; her arc in the story transforms her from a relatively shy introvert with no interest in interacting Pokémon to a coordinator and a specialist with unique traits and a distinct battling technique that isn't relegated specifically to type or evolution family.
