Hey /vp/, I just made a new OU sun team, and I'm looking for advice to help perfect it. Here is the team:
Ninetales @ Leftovers
Trait: Drought
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Nasty Plot
- SolarBeam
- Flamethrower
- Hypnosis

Tropius @ Life Orb
Trait: Chlorophyll

Your team is fairly weather weak. You'll probably win against weatherless and sun teams and lose against everything else. You need a defensive backbone ro win against tied and Ttar to ensure sun

Also don't use unstab outrage.

And I have already beat a rain team, but have not seen a sandstorm team yet.

Outrage is really only good as a STAB. Plus it still doesn't help against skarmory, bronzong or balloontran.

I'd reccomend Hp fire

Why do you use DD on Tropius, when you already have the speed boost of Chlorophyll and Growth would allow you to run a mixed set? (Solarbeam+EQ for fire types).

Also, I wouldn't run an offensive Ninetales, because you want him to survive as long as possible for the weather wars.

Cloryphil does not give me nearly enough of a speed boost, and I have a personal prefrence of hating mixed attackers.
I like the ninetails sugestion though. What should I run on it?

Honestly, I think you should just use Ninetales+5 chlorophyllers/fast fire spammers, similar to how the old Swift Swim teams worked - I see no point in doing anything else.

An example would be Ninetales, Tropius, Scarf Darmanitan, Venusaur, Scarf Victini, and some other fire type.

Okay, a couple of issues on the face of things.

Outrage on Tropius is fairly bad. You're honestly probably better off placing Roost there instead to offset Life Orb recoil and conserve its bulk.

Having Sunny Day on Ninetails will help you win the weather war. Most people will switch in Toed or Tar on Tales, and if you use Sunny Day as they switch in you can neutralise their weather advantage immediately and force them to switch out again or risk taking a Solarbeam.

Using a water-type move on a sun team is a bad idea at the best of times, doubly so when it's non-stab. Get rid of it for HP Fire or Trick.

Entei isn't bad, but it's kind of slow. I think you'd be better off with scarf Darmanitan which is more likely to sweep while having even more testicle-exploding power.

Okay I understand the thing against mixed attacks, in general I don't like them either, but if you want to run sun tropius that's the best way to go. Alternatively, you could just use swords dance for security if your weather gets changed and run pure physical (though growth mixed is still really the best option here)
I would suggest:
Growth/Earthquake/Solarbeam/HP Fire
or
SD/Seed Bomb/Earthquake/Synthesis (or roost if you don't want to rely on weather/need to lose your flying type for a turn, up to you) or Aerial Ace

Drop Psychic or Giga Drain for Substitute, it works better with Sitrus since Sitrus will recover all the HP lost from Subtituting. If you choose psychic consider replacing it with psyshock to better deal with tentacruel who may try to whip out liquid ooze and fuck over your LS

I don't know why you're trying to use surf on a sun team but drop it for trick or another attack. I thought Latios was uber? If it isn't then good job if it is then you might want to switch to Latias.

Drop Magma Storm for Flamethrower, the accuracy on Magma Storm is too shaky and you don't need the power since you have the sun boost.

I don't know what Iron Head really does for you coverage-wise, consider replacing it with Bulldoze to deal with Heatran (since even with iron head you probably won't be OHKOing rock-types, it's more of a filler/finisher). I don't know how effective this would actually be, just a thought, thread input would be appreciated.

as much as i like your creativity with this, the only real niche it has over DDset-ups is its speed, it also has lackluster damage at +1. I'd recommend using something else, like venusaur/sawsbuck, or opting for a stronger set-up like SD.

if you're looking for tanky stats, HP is always better to invest EVs in. You're also CBzor bait so be careful. id say put HPfire>psychic, since celebi can easily come in otherwise.

surf on a sun team is iffy, but it might have its uses. it definitely could utilize trick tho, as that move alone easily neuters an enemy poke

fire blast/flamethrower>magma storm pretty much always. the accuracy is very lackluster and its effects arent really worth it.

If you want a heavy hitter, there are a few other options. Victini is absolutely ridiculous with Vcreate as well as a move to hit waters hard. Darmanitan is also a better option because CB flareblitz with Sheer Force hurts for so much more.

as for threats, you might want to look into a counter for stuff like RPterrakion, DDmence, DDnite, DDhax, T-tar, and volcarona w/HPground. Also, this is only a rough rating as there are more imperfections you might want to learn more of. it just takes experience to know more about the meta id say.
