Rain teams have developed ways around Gastrodon, he's not that good anymore, hence why his usage has dropped.

The best checks for rain teams are Celebi and Jellicent.

Celebi chokes on Ferrothorn, while Jellicent gets worn down by Toxic (and smashed by the electric attacks). Toxicroak is your best bet, OP.

Well most water types know ice type moves, and even in the sun that can take a chunk out of any defensive grass type. (Except Ferrowthorn)
And any fire types will get 1 or 2 HKO'd by their STAB water moves.
Best bet would be to put some steel types to take the water and ice moves and ghost types to cover any fighting type moves.

Toxicroak - Dry Skin makes it a god in the rain

Kabutops - Swift Swim and 115 attack is excellent, especially with STAB-rain boosted moves to hit anything that doesn't resist it hard

Ludicolo - Another Swift Swimmer, this one has access to STAB grass moves to take out opposing water types

Kingdra - Another excellent Swift Swimmer, this one has access to STAB Water (also boosted by rain) & Dragon moves and DD. Or you could opt for the special variant with Hydro Pump and Draco Meteor.

Ferrothorn - Walls water types, can set up leech seed, fire weakness is reduced by the rain, improving its capability as a wall

Celebi - Another grass type that can destroy water types and has a handy resistance to fighting moves

Dragonite - Access to 100% accuracy Thunder and Hurricane (the latter also gets STAB). The last two slots could be used for more powerful special attack (like Draco Meteor) or you could run a mixed set (Outrage/Dragon Claw and Extreme Speed). You could also add Roost to increase its durability

Ninetales - Drought will fuck up their rain, especially after Politoed is down. I like to run Sunny Day on my Ninetales just to piss off the Politoed that has just switched in on it.

Tentacruel - Rain Dish and Toxic Spikes. You can use their own wall against them

Jellicent - Annoying as fuck, especially for rain teams since it has Water Absorb and is fairly bulky

I can't really think of many more examples. I guess any pokemon that's good on a rain team is good against a rain team. And anything with Thunder/Hurricane will benefit as well.

Tentcruel usually runs Scald, Toxic/Toxic Spikes, Rapid Spin and Protect/Substitute. Since Toxicroak is immune to Scald and Toxic, Tentacruel can only hope to spam Rapid Spin (which does shit damage) and Protect/Substitute. This means that Toxicroak can easily reach +6 attack and procede to Drain Punch the fuck out of it (it usually runs Rain Dish so Liquid Ooze is not a problem).

Sandstorm has a far too balanced team comp and less blatant abusers to have a antisandstorm pokemon. The best you can get is a very fast fighting type for Ttar, Terrakion and the occasional Heatran and an ice beamer for Hippo and lando

Don't give Ferrothorn Engery Ball, replace it with Leech Seed or something. Seriously, it's not doing anything coming off uninvested base 54 SpA. Also, give it a nature that lowers speed or SpA, it doesn't need both. Natures that lower one defense to increase another are usually bad choices.

Jynx has been a great Politoed counter for me. Most players I've come across will use Hydro Pump or Scald, completely forgetting about her Dry Skin ability, giving you a free turn to set up.
