Hi doesn't refer to altitude, it means the Pokémon uses their knees. The Japanese name is something like Knee Jump Kick after all.

You're not very creative, are you? Obviously they're trying to retain some sense of uniqueness. If names were just "Vespaqueen" and "CharSalamander" then it would cease being Pokemon and be MONSTERS WITH OBVIOUS NAMES. "Hitting Jackie Chan" or "Hitting Bruce Lee", "Drill Bee", Blaze Chicken" would be the names we'd get instead of, you know, actually creative characters. "Vespiquen" is meant to evoke parts of the words "Vespa" and "Queen" without making it HEY LOOK GUYS LOOK IT IS A QUEEN BEE GET IT

Can't defend Kyogre, though. Its original name was Kaiorga, "Kai" being "ocean" and "orga" being "orca" with dakuten. We should have just left it as Kaiorca/Kaiorga/Kyorca/Kyorga. These all sound fine and could preserve the original meaning. But most would not pick up the "orca" nod from "ogre". It's stupid.

The most hilarious thing was that my Missingno.s usually had High Jump Kick on their moveset. In this context, "tower kick" made a lot of sense.
