i use to play pokemon non competitively but now i started to learn about stats and all that stuff so i wanted to ask /vp/ what pokemon should i train that would be good in competitive play?

It doesn't matter what you do, just send Charizard into Stealth Rocks. It'll power him up greatly.

Ignoring the comments, Charizard is a fine Pokemon in lower tiers. He just can't really do much in higher tiers, with Scarfed Stone Edge Terrakions and such.
Generally I run
A sun team with either Regirock or Whimscott setting up sun. You want to get Charizard out as fast as possible, before SR comes out.
Moveset
>Heatwave/Fireblast
>Airslash
>Dragon Pulse
>Roost

Depending on what you want to do, you can choose basically any Pokemon to make competitively viable.

charizard is actually dope in the lower tiers. Focus on his sp atk and speed. run him in a sun team (if you want) and give him some good attacks that are the same type as him (fire/flying) you can give him dragon as coverage for other dragons in the lower tiers like altaria

Should I start with entry hazards? Or just SR specifically?
SR is an entry hazard, that when deployed will do damage to a Pokemon upon switching in.
Normally this is only around 8-10%.
If a Pokemon has a 2X weakness to Rock Type Attacks, it will do 25% damage.
If it has a 4X weakness, like Charizard it will do 50% damage just for switching in.

Most flying Pokemon (and a few others) get Roost as a TM in Gen IV. I think it is just a normal egg move now.

You can get Roost by TM. If your using a simulator you wont have to worry about it. You can give a Pokemon any move it can learn assuming it isn't an illegal set.
Also, as you can already tell people don't take too kindly to the 'zard here.
