It didn't bother to fix any of the problems of the original game, it just slapped on graphix and gimmicks, and relied on nostalgia to sell to both current fans and your typical I AM A NERD I PLAY POKEMON CHARIZARD IS MY FACORITE retard.
Of course, the majority of /vp/lebians gobbled that shit up.

Worst Gen as far as new Pokemon goes, but besides that there is little to complain about. All in all, not much has changed in terms of gameplay since Gen IV, as not much needed to be changed.

Platinum fixed it's issues while HG/SS barely addresses them and just added some polish.

disregarding the Kanto Gym Leader theme and the Johto Trainer Battle theme, most of them were pretty good. I personally loved the Indigo Plateau music, it was orgasmic.

Really? I thought the Gym leader theme's were some of the better music, I couldn't stand the regular battle music since it gave me headaches.

The new Lavender town song was great though even though I really enjoyed the original music of Lavender town.

I'm almost certain they were developed separately. To be honest I like both Platinum and HG/SS for different reasons; Plat gave DP the polish and diversity Sinnoh needed, while HG/SS brought back some older concepts (following Pokemon) and some enjoyable nostalgia bait (unless you're 15).

Personally, the only remix I didn't like was Goldenrod city's. Nearly everything else was either forgettable or fantastic, mostly the latter. Bell Tower, Ho-oh's battle theme and the Vs. Johto Gym Leader themes were GOAT for me.

It's mostly the shitty intros that they put into a few songs that ruined them. I personally loved most of the music. There is the argument that the game sounded too "bubbly" but bubbliness is fine with me. I just personally don't like the changes between Kanto-based games and Johto-based games for routes with the route 3 music (original orchestration almost makes me cry, love that tune) and the Kanto gym leaders (I feel like the Kanto-based ones have a livlier feel to battling them. There's also the great music at the Sinjho ruins or whatever they're called (the ones with Cynthia) as well as Vermillion City. The only music I really think they kinda messed up was where they put intros in and the Legendary battle music could have been better.

Not the same anon that made that post. The gen 2 Pokemon were often outclassed by Gen 1 Pokemon in terms of distribution and availability. The ability to not buy coins is pretty shitty, other than that voltorb flip is pretty fun. The regions are barebones after seeing Hoenn and Sinnoh. The content they have doesn't even come close to those two.

The routes from those games are often much smaller compared to Hoenn and Sinnoh. It's often a single line to the next city/town. Hoenn and Sinnoh often have secrets in routes. Route 134 is a good example of this as you can access to the sealed chamber there.

Also, not being able to fly directly from a Kanto location to a Johto one was a pointless inconvenience. No, I don't want to use the damn train every time I want to go over nor do I want to stop off at Victory Road every time.
