i tell them that a legendary is an above average pokemon that you have to complete some aspect of the story to obtain. that having a legendary dosent make you any cooler. even in gen 1 having a legendary meant nothing. it was only cool because you were a child.

i am 26 and i fucking loved pokemon. grew up with it.

i had the games, but my last one was silver. also watched the cartoon....
i DO NOT hate everything after 2nd generation... and i am sure most of the people who say they do, they dont,. what happened? it went beyond us. ever saw a nostalgia thread going on? is the same shit, is like saying.. i was there, but we are fucking old now and we dont know what the fuck is going on because we stopped watching the cartoons or buying games because we started doing something else, college, jobs or just another thing we found interesting...

so, dont be a hater if someone starts saying shit about the new gens of pokemon... is just a frustrated oldfag that is sticked to its roots.... some of them are still playing... from the red version to the very last one (dont ask me the name, yes i am an oldfag) but the only weird thing i could say is..... from the third gen pokemons started looking weird... even closer to a digimon in my opinion... i am not saying is bad... but kind of broke the nice thing of it...

Personally, I'd cut out Latios, Latias, Heatran, Shaymin, Phione, and Keldeo. They're just unneeded filler.

Oh, and Arceus as well. I'd cut him out simply because its concept is just stupid.

Heatran, Shaymin, and Phione? I agree. They should have just made Skymin the normal Shaymin.

Keldeo was needed to fit the Three Musketeer theme that was going on. I personally like it and its design, but giving it a new form was stupid.

Legendaries have turned into a generic extra catch or something you can't get if you don't live in USA, Japan or Europe.
Also, having 20 each gen makes them lose meaning.
Latios/Latias are better as generic pokemon.
Heatran, Cresselia, Manaphy, Phione and Darkrai are filler. Darkrai is also better as a generic pokemon. Shaymin too, but at least it fills better the cute legendary place than Manaphy.
And in 5th Gen, the Kami trio should either be removed or replaced by one. Meloetta sucks and Genesect is a great idea badly executed.

That said, the Gen 1 legendaries could get a bit more of backstory, but the number is fine.

I'm confused how we went from discussing ways to deal with nostalgiafilterfags to debating which legendaries we would wanna cut.

On the first issue I either roll my eyes and move on or point out the nostalgia filter in their brain.

On the latter discussion, though, I'd probably just leave it as is. From a literally-in-the-Pokeworld-without-knowledge-of-the-fourth-wall perspective it actually makes a lot of sense. If RLfags have thousands of mythical figures all over the world, I don't see what's wrong with having barely under 50 legendaries spread out over 5 regions that you could cross with nothing but a Flying Pidgey (and the right badge) in the Pokemonverse.

Gen 1 and 2, once you beat the Elite 4, that was it, not really anything more to do.

With Gen 3, they were like
>Hey, lets make a wandering Pokemon for them to search for
and also added the Frontier in Emerald

In Gen 4, they elaborated more on it
>After you beat the Elite 4, go to this island, climb this mountain, catch this rare guy
>Enter cave, navigate ice maze, get rare guy
>Find these 3 guys during the story, go out and catch them after game
>Enter other dimension, get this guy
and what-not

And now, Gen 5, they gave you 3 wondering Pokemon, 3 cave pokemon, the isle Victini is on

1. Not a bad thing.
2. Always been a bad insult (though I know you didn't mean it to seem like on)
3. Just having somewhat less simple designs doesn't mean it's a Digimon. I'll give you some, like Bisharp, but otherwise it's just a changing art style as the games can handle more complicated sprites.

Gen 2 had a roaming trio, Ho-oh and Lugia. Also Celebi but that was awkward to get a hold of. I think that's enough. I'm not even going to bother trying to defend Gen 1, though I like it, I admit it was lacking and there was a lot wrong with it.
