That comic always felt like it matched me perfectly. Kept playing Pokemon all the way through the generations, but it wasn't until HGSS that everyone I knew picked it up again my sophomore year of college.

I got in through the anime and bought gen1 soon afterwards, playing through all of the games.

Swap the second and third panels, and it's accurate. Nobody but me was interested in it in my college, but gen3 was booming in high school.
