Tough I played all gens, I don't have "fond memories"/childhood memories of any of them. I don't remember my first starter. The only Gen I grew attached is the actual one, with my 18 years completed.

what possibly made you think ghosty was immune to psychic?
it was always the other way around, and you were supposed to think that psychic was super effective against ghost
this was because gen 1 had poison as the second type of every ghost
even in gen 2, there were barely any ghosts, so this would be hard habit to learn that has changed
