You don't say "Saltwater crocodile is the largest living reptile at 3 feet tall" or "an adult ferret is 4 inches tall"
Reptiles, and a bunch of different mammals are measured lengthwise, and if you want to do it scientifically you don't count the tail.
Turtles/tortoises are measured by the length of the shell. You would know this if you weren't just regurgitating some vague fact you heard somewhere.
