Well the original tamagotchi toy was released in 1994 in japan, and it's english tagline was 'digital mosters in your pocket'
Which I think had something to do with why pocket monsters was shortened to pokemon.

Some of the digimon designs were great, but some were just awful

Opinion seems mixed on this. It's incredibly grindy is the main flaw I see, though. You have to meet the requirements to get certain evos, and if you can't, you might as well go back to the previous form and try again. The good part, though, is you retain the stat boosts, so you're still stronger than normal, even if at a lesser state.

You would have to grind a pretty long time to do that, even in this. Even if you did know what you were doing and put together a dream team of the strongest junk you could find. Especially for this, since like with Pokemon, to get the more powerful ones, generally, you will have to get to higher levels to get them. This same flaw exists with Pokemon, though, so I see little difference.

Raidramon came out years before Luxray. So when I saw Luxray for the first time I was kinda let down.

(Now here is where I'm gonna get shit from biased faggots.)

I just though Luxray was a watered down Raidramon. I wish they would have given Luxray talons and on-rounded ears.
To me it looks like a pussy doll version of what should be a badass pokemon.
I understand it is tailored down for both company image and kids, but there are plenty of pokemon with such natural features.
I just think it's a real same they gimped out by not giving the finishing touches to Luxray.

A lot of action, a lot of characterization, a lot of coherence, a lot of logic, a lot of lots of other shit that was lost when they were Hulk-smashed together into the mess that was Digimon: The Movie.

The third movie suffered the most. Half of it was chopped out, scenes were moved around, and a lot of story was lost. Hell all of the story was lost, it was a stand-alone non-canon film that the higher-ups forced the guy to put with the other two.

Plenty of people who are around 18-25 or so grew up watching the first four seasons of Digimon, which were more heavily censored than Savers was in the English dub. No argument that any censorship is bad, but the fact is that Citrusmon or no Citrusmon, Savers has the best dub so far.

The other fact was that Disney told them, you censor this or you're losing the episode. So, they turned a censor into a parody instead. For the most part, Savers does have less censoring in the dub (and most of the censored parts were around the female characters, which they would have had to do anyways, no matter what)

Just want to start by saying /vp/, you guys are swell. When I was a kid I grew out of Digimon by the halfway point of season 3, and now nostalgia is taking over my soul. What series is objectively the best? I want to re-experience this all over again. Nostalgia makes me gravitate towards 1 and 2, but looking back I realize they weren't that spectacular.

Also, Digimon World 1 is one of my favorite games of all time. Just saying.

Probably Digimon Tamers, the original Adventure in second place. Savers can be good clean fun, though it isn't actually all that great.

And if you liked Digimon World 1, look into Re:Digitize for the PSP and the 3DS port Decode.

As a fan of both Pokemon and Digimon, it is true that both are quite even powered in terms of min and max possible power. However there are more Digimon, numerically speaking, that could wreck havoc in a big scale, than there are Pokemon. And that's because both have different origins and both play different roles in their worlds. Digimon form cities, alliances, cultures and shit. Pokemon don't.

Rewatching Tamers again it feels more like "here's a story except edgier! please watch me!" It lacks substance and creativity. People just fap to it because it's their first dark show.

I honestly suggest Adventure, Savers, and Xros Wars because it shows more about Digimon in different outlandish scenarios and can be pretty dark at times but not enough to be distracting.

Tamers is the one with the most complex story, hands down. For the other series keep in mind they're supposed to be lighthearted, and that's perfectly fine. The stories will still be better than Pokemon's anime.
