Azumarill was pretty good in the right hands during gen 3 with the addition of Huge Power. With 404 max HP, he made a fantastic subpuncher. He's only gotten better since then with the physical/special split and the addition of aqua jet.

Growlithe. I enjoyed raising Flareon more and I had to fucking teach it STRENGTH for coverage. But that fucking Growlithe man. It was absolute shit until it learned Flare Blitz and I evolved it. One of the worst Pokemon to raise and I've raised a Larvesta from level one without Exp. Share. Absolute worst would be Manectric, though.

Froslass made up for it by being interesting to use.

Also, I hate how most pokemon with interesting concepts are completely worthless. You know, the pokemon with strange abilities or that change depending on situations (castform is a prime example) Why would they put such effort into centering a subplot of R/S's story around this guy and give him unique abilities, moves, and multiple sprites just to have him be completely and utterly useless? I'll never understand GF.

Replaying Gold and I can't seem to level them. Some of my favorites in terms of design, but the fact that they don't learn any damaging moves that aren't normal really annoys me.

Haven't caught them in any future gens, so I don't know if they're better. Still eternal bros, though.

Empoleon. Started in diamond with Piplup because cuteness and promise of cool typing, but its movepool was boring and it wasn't particularly strong. Disappointment all around. Not to mention every pokemon had earthquake this gen. Literally every pokemon.

Well, I mean, I wasn't training it for competitive use or anything. Just a normal playthrough. And given the Sinnoh gyms and E4, I didn't have much impetus to teach it ice beam anyway.
It had a pretty decent sp. defense, and the type resistances were nice, but that's about all I liked about it.

Also, my Flygon didn't really pull its weight on my Black 2 team. All of its best TM and tutor moves were unavailable and for some retarded reason they changed it so it doesn't learn Dragon Claw until 55 when it could learn it at 45 in BW1. How the fuck is anyone supposed to use Dragon Tail as their main dragon attack for most of the game?

Persian. I caught a Meowth and I thought Persian was going to be awesome and it wasn't.

Admittedly as one of the fastest Slash user in Gen 1 it was abusable but I was pretty disappointed by it back in Gen 1 before I learned how to abuse it
