Rocks demolishes certain pokemon weak to rock type by knocking them to 3/4 or 1/2 health before they even make a move.
Rocks stays forever unless a single specific move is used (a move that is rare, easy to predict, and easy to block with ghost types).
Rocks can be used with a common tactic called "phasing" to great effect, taking down walls and previously set up pokemon.
All this off a single attack you only have to use once.
