What would be even better is if the HM abilities were permanently attached to the pokemon you taught the HM to, but the move itself is able to be forgotten

So like you'd have a Pidgey or some shit with 4 moves that aren't Fly but can still Fly outside of battle

Well I don't know about that buuuut hms are annoying. I know they're just in game pokemon but I can't help but feel like I'm ruining them, it forces me to wind up with nothing but attacking moves. Most of the hms are so shitty damage wise, so you want actual good moves. That leaves little room for things like status or what have you.

You could still battle the Pokémon you fished up and have Magikarp faint, returning you to a Pokémon Center. But again, it is entirely possible to not even have a fishing rod in the first place, making it impossible to leave the island. I don't know why people are still debating it.
