Sapphire was my first successful Nuzlocke.

After the 8 badges were beat I grinded Lance1nut the Machamp and Shadynasty the Walrein up high 60s and just shat on the E4

That's why the most fun nuzlockes are nuzlockes with 'no grinding' rule. It's so challenging that win is rarity and when you menage to survive, there's fucking huge satisfaction

Nuzlockes are really fucking easy, unless if you use a big team. then you have to spend hours grinding. I can beat leafgreen with only a fucking Charizard, but usually people like to use shitty mons to increase difficulty.

White 2. Grinded a ton.
Had a Mienshao, Audino, Lilligant and Gliscor. Chandelure and Hydreigon.

Black 1 now, rule that I can only grind to the level of the next Gym Leader/rival/Elite Four's highest.

yeah it's why i prefer monotype runs or ones which you're not allowed to evolve anything over nuzlockes. you still have to grind but at least you don;t have to be super careful about fainting.

That's more of a solo run. The point of a Nuzlocke is to use Pokemon you normally wouldn't, partially because of the restriction on capturing.

Agreed- solo runs with a good pokemon are usually pretty easy as well. When I first played Blue I only levelled up my starter and breezed through the game; it's what makes the games so easy for the very young players who don't care about having a balanced team.

of course they do, its not this hard (by players that are good at pokemon) to not die without losing their char.

I like the "only catch the first pokemon on each route" rule, but not the permadeath rule. It just leads to being overly cautious, which isn't fun. I don't want to spend the entire game traveling back and forth to the pokemon center after each insignificant battle and spending so much time grinding to make sure my pokemon are strong enough to tackle any situation.

what are some other rules I could use in place of permadeath along with the first nuzlocke rule? Only other "special" run I did was bug pokemon only in FireRed, which was fun.

I lost 4 of my pokemon on my crystal nuzlocke before fighting Agatha, I only had a seaking and a magneton. Thought I was done for and was going to lose my nuzlocke but somehow beat her and Lance, was so happy.

I never grind that much, never more than I normally do. Which means never even up to lvl 60 so far.

death is one of the main rules, if you don't do it you're not really doing a nuzlocke. Buy some potions, simple as that.

I beat Red in a Crystal nuzlocke on my gb, none of the main team died. 5 pokés dead in total during playthrough.

Team: Typhlosion, Magneton, Poliwrath, Xatu, Lapras and Forretress. Everybody 7x.

You could do an N-run.

Catch the first six (non-repeating) pokemon you encounter. After you beat a gym with them, you have to catch the NEXT 6 pokemon you encounter until your team is fully replaced.

It's still a lot of grinding and, IMO, not as elegant as the Nuzlocke, but you can make strategic decisions allowing mons to faint without losing them forever.
