>>12256304I think in general that you and I just have radically different taste in what is good in pokemon design. From the pokemon you picked (Clefable, Golem, Primape, Hypno, Swanna, Tangrowth), I can tell that you like pokemon with simple designs, limited color palettes, quirky features, rounded forms, and soft edges. And that's cool! Again, I'm more of a Charizard/Venusaur/Gyarados/Gengar fan, which I think puts me in more of the ferocious, dramatic, badass, dangerous category.
What seems a bit absurd to me is you going through the thread calling all the designs out as being absurdly edgy and try-hard-y. I'm sure they are to you, but you've got pretty bland taste in pokemon if I can be perfectly frank. By my taste in the ferocious dramatic pokemon, I think most of them are hardly edgy at all. Gyarados blows most of them out of the water in terms of edginess and overdesign, and he's usually pretty well regarded.
I think there's a psychological component, too. People who are going to make a fakemon want to make their mark and explore a cool, unique concept pokemon, which will likely be a bit more badass and unique and dramatic. The world of pokemon also needs sandshrews and raticates, but who wants to design one like that? They're bland and run-of-the-mill.
At least we can both agree that Clefable is pretty rad.
