Funny enough, I believe I watched something about a lizard species whose entire male line went extinct. The existing females would pretend to have sex or some weird shit and they could actually still form eggs. This was some time ago, so I don't know if even any of that is correct.

I don't want to have the whole genderroles arguement because that typically derails threads instantly, but I dont mind females having muscles or facialhair, at least in animals.

It's correct, but it's different with females. These female lizards basically clone themselves and lays the cloned eggs. The sexual part it's like some ritual to estimulate the egg producing.
But the males can't reproduce because are unable to make eggs.

There's a lot of animals that doesn't require sex to reproduce. But most of them are more simple organisms like starfishes and sponges. There are also some slugs that just divide itself into two new slugs.
But is weird as fuck this kind of reproduction in complex organisms like mammals or birds.

The thing is: That species HAD males, but they all died. Then now only the females exist and they somehow managed to reproduce like I described. I don't remember the details about how this male massive death happened, but I'm pretty sure about this.
