Dragon is a mythological beast, extremely rare and superior than most standard life.

The words have more meaning than the species they imply

When Pokemon was first introduced, they were quite often known as "elements" or "elemental types" in various official materials.

My take is somewhat along the lines of what >>12270500 pointed out. No need to fuss over it in any case, since MOST types can be perfectly explained in elemental terms as they're usually represented in fiction.

Physical types are related to ecology, while types in the Special category are closer to what we might call "elements".

The best way to know why something's an element is to try and focus on the types' moves instead of the Pokemon species that constitute them.

Bug elementally covers stuff like spider webs, powder, pin needles and other really nasty buggy shit. Dragon, on the other, hand is entirely supernatural and majestic. Comet summonings, mystical dances, even time and space manipulation belongs to that category.

I suppose bug and dragon is better than those, because creepy could easily be Ghost or Poison, and Mystical could be psychic....

Nah, I'm just saying that it's associated with all the materials you'd see bugs use. Poison can overlap with that, and often does since several Bug types are part Poison, but isn't the same.

Similar but not the same. Psychic is more focused on extrasensory or esper-like stuff related to the paranormal, but Dragon is clearly on a mythological level of supernatural powers.

No they don't, that's just gen 1's shitty meta-game stigma following them.

As far as the situation with bugs and bug type they're kind of the odd man out in both fiction and reality.

If you had to give them a different type that differed from its addressed name then most likely it would be something along the lines of the "locomotion" type.

Fuck your citation, anyone who played the originals know how fucked up the meta game was.

Since gen 2 bugs have constantly been making improvements. What made them so bad originally was the constant use of secondary typing being poison and the horrific bug type movepool they had.

Seriously if gen 1 bugs had access to shit like Bug Buzz and X scissor they wouldn't have been so fucked when it came to the meta-game despite their obvious weakness.
