The animal references are pretty much a relic of Gen 1 when there weren't enough Pokemon.

It's safe to say they've been retconned out of existence at this point.

Read Basculin's BW2 Pokedex entry.

Well, Farfetch'd are eaten at least. There's also the whole Slowpoke Tail issue. Aside from the occasional weird Pokedex entry that someone types up, Game Freak will probably always avoid any of the more morbid questions.

I swear, each generation's graveyard seems like it is more and more subtle when referencing dead Pokemon. They went from 'dead' to 'at rest'.

Now Im confused. I asked this question before on /vp/ only to have people say animals DO exist in the Pokemon world. It made sense to me seeing how humans wouldn't have to compete with powerful monsters for food all the time, why Pikachu is a Mouse Pokemon despite mice not existing, and why theyre called Pocket Monsters instead of just animals since theres nothing to compare it to.

Also, speaking of Pokedex entries, Im still bothered by Yamask. Its supposedly a human spirit, but it evolves like a Pokemon would. And it can breed with Pokemon. Does this mean the dead can breed and ghost Pokemon are actually ghost and not just spooky animals, and then theres that whole Human breeding with Pokemon thing.

I miss when pokémon were more animal like.

Electrode and Magnemite were the only exceptions back then, and it should've stayed like that.

I would take everything on a Pokedex with a grain of salt. It's similar to real life animal myths.

Like how a leopard earned its spots, the origin of certain animals, or other wacky stuff.

Geodude was a reptile all along and has eyes and a digestive tract.
Koffing line is the same as above, plus produces waste constantly and is squishy, not stone-like.
Grimer line and Ditto are blobs made of cells not very different from amoeabas or jellyfish.

Well in the anime since regular animals stopped being shown meat meals have become less common. Ash and friends for the most part tend to eat vegetable soups and other things based on the fruits and vegetables found in the forest.

It's a game for kids stop over thinking things. They could come up with all kinds of explanations but it just doesn't matter. Theres all kinds of things that bug me, like how come when you go into a house if it's one floor only there are no beds? Or if you go to like a rivals house or yours, theres one bed for your rival and for you. Where do the parents sleep? Why did all the poke dads run away? These questions just don't matter, it's like people looking into my little pony and making all kinds of wacky questions that only people with truly nothing better to do wonder about.
