Hey /vp/! In your opinion. When is the appropriate time to use a masterball? Do you use it on Legendary? Or do use only ultraballs? Or do you never use the Masterball at all?

I only use them on roaming legendaries (too lazy to chase them everywhere) or on shinies. Really no reason to use them on stationary ones.

I use them on legendaries that are especially hard to catch, like Kyurem and Heatran.

The Masterball is for this one you really think is Legendary for you. I menaged to get all legendaries online so I had my Masterball untouched.
Then the N Darumakka appeared in front of me.
I used my masterball on it, I have trained it and now we are bros.

Depends on the game. In the old days, I would typically use the master ball on hard to catch legendaries. This is because I could keep catching them and then SRing until I got one with the right nature. But in newer games, you can just lead with a synchronize pokemon to give you a 50% chance of automatically getting the right nature anyway. So it's not so bad to just throw a bunch of ultra/dusk balls until it gets caught, because its likely you'll get the right nature on the first or second attempt.

Nowadays I typically use it on roaming legendaries, because fuck those niggers.

If I'm being lazy, I'll use it on the roaming legendary. Although in any game later than gen 3, I can breed a Gallade with Mean Look, Hypnosis and False Swipe so I'll usually use that to catch them.

And if I haven't used it on the roaming legendary, I'll use it on a self-destructing shiny (I haven't done this yet since I've only come across one unscripted shiny before)

Shinies are rare as it is. But the odds of encountering a shiny pokemon that knows a self-destruct move, roar, or whirlwind is astronomically low, all things considered.

I enjoy the thrill of hunting legendaries, using different strategies, wasting pokeballs, and finally getting rewarded when I successfully catch them.
The masterballs I have are proof of being a successful hunter, so I tend to not use them
Except on shinies. Fuck those.

If hard to catch legendaries with rest/ roost: quick/ timer/ heavy balls. If shiny: throw balls until the shit get caught.

The first shiny I got in B2 was a Baltoy with a self-destruct move - Self Destruct.

Didn't even have a false swiper with me, just paralyse / whack it a bit and dusk balled it.

it's just i see alot of people get butt hurt about how they lost shiny due to critical hit , having over leveled party pokemons , not having a false swiper , accidently ran out of balls or it fleeing / self destructing as you said

that's why i said unexpected afterall

roaming legendaries got an easy way to hunt them and you can save on that route preparing your mean look pokemon and it wont be a problem.

It broke out on the last damn shake of the safari ball and then ran. I think I shed a tear or three. I even had the masterball already obtained. I WOULD have used it.

I feel so stupid that I never made that connection. It makes sense I guess silph or Team Rocket were developing it to catch Mewtwo too. (I can't remember the lore in that game very well.) I like using Dark Balls because I play a lot in night and the animation is pretty cool.

I think Heart Gold/Soul Silver had the best Pokeballs with apricot Pokeballs...but fuck harvesting those things.

I've never used one, but that's mainly because of completist "must have every item" and autistic "muh Premier Balls" bents. If I weren't so anal, I'd probably use one on a legendary with a low catch rate and/or roaming nature. If I ever encounter another shiny, I might use it if I was afraid of accidentally fainting it.

Not at all. Inclusion of Dusk Ball made Master Balls unnecessary.
Every legendary can easily be gotten to 1HP with Sleep, so catching them is just a matter of chugging dusk balls approximately 6-8 times.
Roaming legendaries can be easily caught with Gallade leading and otherwise the same strategy.
