So...can anyone think of any reason why Fairy would be SE against Ice?

I'm a fairy supporter, BTW, before anyone thinks I'm implying that it isn't fairy type.

The best thing I can come up with is that ice is a naturally occurring part of nature and fairies usually have control over nature. This is also why it's weak against poison which is like pollution and is bad against nature

That's just what everyone's been saying because some losers were being butthurt about losing to dragons in competitive play.
Regardless, they're implying Sylveon is going to be weak to fighting, which is already one of the dominating types in metagame, so it's not like GF is going to use the new type to actually balance anything.

That's pretty much why people want Fairy to be SE against Steel/Fighting/Dragon and weak to Poison/Grass/Ice. Even if it doesn't make sense.

Light refracts through ice, reflects against steel, and is occluded by pollution.

Light makes a lot more sense than fairy, though truthfully I doubt it's a new type

No it doesn't. All of Sylveon's names are synonyms of "fairy" just like all of Vaporeon's names have to do with water, all of glaceon's names have to do with ice, etc. What the shit does a sylvan or nymph specifically have to do with light?

All true, but he's reasoning that fairies would be weak to poison because they're of the elements and harmed by unnatural/manmade elements. The fact that many poison-types and they poison they produce are NATURAL (i.e. not influenced by pollution) undermines the entire notion that poison particularly harms fairies because it's unnatural.

According to the fairy lore being cited, pollution would harm fairies--so Weezing would be a threat--but poisonous snakes aren't pollution, so Arbok wouldn't be particularly harmful?

And why does it matter that poison occurs in nature? That's completely irrelevant, the type match up is derived from its pollution form, just like how bug vs psychic is derived from being afraid of bugs. What are most fairy types going to be? Many are going to be those generic cute pink normal types like blissey, delcatty, and jigglypuff. They're trying to maintain continuity. It'd be weird after all these years of countering blissey with fighting attacks that she's now suddenly resistant to it, right?

Just playing devil's advocate here though. I'm completely against this on all logical levels. Ideally a new type would be SE against steel and dragon, immune to dragon, resistant to fighting, and weak to bug, grass, poison. Oh, and ice would resist it, because they need a resistance.

When a Pokemon uses shit like sludge bomb or smog or sludge wave it's still putting poisonous shit all around the target which is kind of like pollution. I don't see why that's so wrong to work in. There are type relationship reasonings that make less sense. Should grass not be SE against ground because not all grass attacks use roots in the ground? Fairy doesn't need to be weak to poison necessarily because it's unnatural, but it's still shit that harms trees/forests/water/whatever which is what fairies are sometimes spirits of.

I understand your point, not all Poison in the game is unnatural, so it wouldn't make sense for an animal to be especially harmful to a nature spirit. However, I don't think there's much else to go on right now. We don't even know if this new type will be called "Fairy", it might be something else that would make sense.
IF we're just going based on fairy lore, I'm sure most poisonous animals were considered "unnatural", "devils", etc, and was often a trait associated with evil, in the time people were making tales of fairies.

Best I can hope for in Gen 6 is for the 600 base stat dragon to be grass/dragon. It'd have that precious 4x ice weakness that GF loves so much too.

It's been on the front page in a million threads since last night.
The segment on Pokemon Smash is doing skits which are slowly revealing aspects of Sylveon's type. Girl dressed as Sylveon first tries to show off she's a fighting type, but gets instantly defeated by another fighter. However, she then shows off how good she is at breaking Ice, implying it will be SE against Ice. Following this logic, the team suggests she might be a Steel-type, so they test her by putting her head into a tank full of smelly crap, which represents Poison. She is affected by it, and seems especially so, suggesting a Poison weakness.
