Seems like a perfect starter Pokemon.
Else just stick to the tried and tested formula of Grass/Water/Fire.
Pokemon from all gens is a cool idea, but make the encounters make sense. So, make sure that the first route has pidgeys, sentrets, bidoofs, etc And that the forests have wurmples, weedles, wormadams, etc. Don't just go LOL SO RANDUMB and make Genesect apear on the first route.
Player teams is a fun idea, but maybe for something like a post game thing? Where you start to find "elite trainers" who have EV trained their pokemon and shit, all of high levels, offering the player a challenge.
Gym Leader/E4 rematches.
No poohaa, or bullshit like HG/SS. Just make them be able to be rebattled after the main story, but of way high level and with strong as fuck Pokemon(EV trained) (This is where player inserted trainers come in, make them reard you with lots of XP, and the trainers will prepare them for the second Gym Leader/E4 battle.)
Even better idea: If you're doing a joint region, make the stronger Gym Leaders and E4 members and player trainers reside there.
First comes the main story, and then you may travel to Region X where people take battling SERIOUSLY (Smogonia, ha har) and where all random trainers have the player inserted teams, with EV's and items and whatever. And make the Gym leaders there also have Ev trained Pokemon with items and shit. And their E4 should be BALLSDEEP CHOO CHOO RAPETRAIN COMING TROUGH hard.
