because the reveal trailer indicated that it was still grid based. this is pokemon we're talking about, it was definitely possible for them to keep the grid. diagonal movement could have easily been done in previous gens

If I had more time, I'd actually work out the grid layout, etc., as well as compare them to the "rails" used to walk around corners and turns in BW/BW2 (like in the Battle Subway)

I really don't like how low the camera is in X/Y. It looks fine in OP's pic, but at other times its so low to the ground that you can't even fucking see what's a couple steps in front of where the screen is.
